	growin' tips... Ferns Most varieties prefer partial shade or shade and moist, slightly acid soil enriched with organic matter. Plant bareroot ferns with the growing tip just barely showing through the surface of the soil. Cover with no more than 1" of soil. Ferns are notoriously slow to send up new growth the spring after planting. Some varieties are slow to reawaken every year.
